This copper plate was created at Fondazione Il Bisonte during Evan Summer’s April 2023 residency in Florence, Italy. The edition was printed at Il Bisonte by Fabio Riaudo.

In October of 2019 I was able to buy a number of 24” x 20” backed, polished copper plates. They were old and I hadn’t seen plates this nice in a long time.

Just two months earlier I retired from Kutztown University after teaching there 34 years. This was a difficult time with Coronavirus and the resulting closures, quarantine and continuing fear of infection. There was plenty of time to work but progress on my etchings was slow. I’m not able to etch in my own studio and have to rely on other facilities. So I preferred to work on drawings and collagraphs.

States 1 & 2

This print was done in 2021 for a portfolio organized by Miguel Aragon to honor of Kim and Therese Bauer. It is a copper plate done in a combination of etching and drypoint. Paper size was 11” x 14” and plate size is 10.75” x 8”, and it was printed in an edition of 30.

23.5” x 13.5” copper plate etching done in 2021. I saw a tree at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, photographed it and made a drawing based on my photo. Subsequently I made this line etching.
